So after last night’s disappointment, I went to the local high school and ran on the 400m track. 12.5 laps. OR: 5K!!

I learned some things.

Have the husband and baby sit away from the beginning of the laps. I got distracted and would forget to hit the timer until a little late.

Do not eat Cheez-its before running. I just walked the entire 11th lap because I felt sick.

Stretch the back of the thighs more.

I overestimated how fast I run on the treadmill and ran my first lap a bit fast, at least for my first time on the “street”.

Despite these little shortfalls, I think I did really good for my first time.

OMG, I feel like such an idiot. My hip and knee had been hurting when I go up stairs, but I knew running on a treadmill or a track would be OK. So we went to the 5K run and it was cross-country!! It was in teh forest and up small hills, and over roots. I even had to get over a big log. After the first mile, my hip was hurting and I stopped.

I feel so disappointed! I really wanted to do that 5K. But my darling husband says he will take me out to the local high school to run on their track tomorrow night. Wish me luck!

Thank you so much for the suggestions on my last post. I have taken some time to think about why I have trouble seeing the 199 on the scale.

One reason is my weight was a layer of protection. With it, I could filter out the shallow and cruel people. The ones that saw past the weight would be more tolerable. Now I have no filter. People are going to see the inside me much more easily and that scares me. Because I don’t love myself.

I don’t see the good my husband does. I think people will see that I’m not smart or funny or hard-working. They will see me for as I feel I am: slow, lame, and lazy.

I never knew this weight-loss journey would involve more than shedding pounds. Not only have I taken on losing 80 pounds, I’ve also taken on giving love to someone that I currently think does not deserve it.

I started jogging a mile yesterday, like I said I would. I was a little frustrated that the treadmill was so very slow in starting up! And so it took 13 minutes, 26 seconds to do a mile.

This morning, I let the treadmill go without me for 30 seconds while it got up to speed. In that time, it went 0.02 miles. At 30 seconds, I hopped on and ran for two minutes then walked for three, then repeat. I ran until the treadmill read 1.02 miles and I subtracted 30 seconds from the time.

Today my mile was 12 minutes 33 seconds.

The plan is to do 2 minutes run, 3 walk for the rest of the week, then increase the running and decrease the walking by 30 seconds each week. My goal is to run a mile in 10 minutes or less!

A couple years ago, when I was last on WW, I had a goal to run a mile under 10 minutes on the treadmill. I hated the mile jog in high school because I always came in at 15 minutes. It was a stupid activity; just a way for teachers to teach gym class without having to do anything. There are ways to work on improving your time, but they never taught me that!

When I wanted to run under 10 minutes, I started with periods of running followed by walking and repeat. Each week, I would decrease the walking time and increase the running. I got it down to just above 9 minutes, if I remember correctly.

After I started going to the gym after having my baby, I wasn’t really interested in the treadmill. In fact, I made the excuse that I was too heavy to run, and procrastinated by saying that when I hit 220, I would do the mile again.

This morning, my weigh-in was 219.2. (Yay!)

I haven’t been going to the gym for a little more than a month. Somehow, I didn’t do it for one day and I found it hard to get back to it. It requires me to get up earlier in the morning and have everything I need for the day ready before I go to bed.

It’s already Thursday (can you believe it???) and Monday is a holiday. Would it be alright to use the weekend to get my act together for my return to the treadmill on Tuesday?

Speaking of this weekend, I have plans to work on my podcast. I let it fall to the wayside because of my vacation, but also because I hit a roadblock with finding a place to host it and provide an RSS feed for iTunes. My biggest fan, my husband, has been really looking into all this and thinks he has a solution. So if he can help me get that figured out, I’ll spend this weekend working on my podcast.

I went to the city and walked around from about 8AM until 5:30PM, with a couple small stops. So I am sure that I walked 8 hours today. That’s 25 activity points! So I think it’s alright that I ate a little more to make up for it.
