Breakfast!

June 18th, 2009

At my Weight Watcher’s meeting tonight, we talked about how “Eat Breakfast; Lose Weight” is so true! And I got some great breakfast ideas. Usually, I leave the house with ½ a cup of cereal with ½ cup of 1% milk.

Here are four things we learned:

  1. Breakfast deserves variety.
  2. S-T-R-E-T-C-H with filling foods.
  3. Power up with protein.
  4. Favorites make it fun.

I would like to list some great breakfast suggestions, but before I do, let me inform you that I do NOT like to eat eggs. So I don’t have any egg information (ie. calories or points), but if you do need it, just let me know.

Some basic low-cal substitutions:

  • Canadian Bacon (though I couldn’t find it in the store. Help!)
  • Eggbeaters or egg whites.
  • Low-cal English muffins
  • reduced fat and/or low-cal cheeses
  • vegetables
  • Low-cal yogurt

Here are some ideas I heard:

  • Egg Mcmuffin: English muffin with canadian bacon, egg beaters, and low-cal cheese.
  • Omelet: Eggbeaters, low-cal cheese, and tons of vegetables.
  • Smoothie: WW or your own concoction.
  • ½ serving of Golden Grahams in low-cal yogurt with low-cal whipped cream.
  • Low-cal bagels (WW has 2pt bagels, some stores have 1pt bagels.) Add cheese!
  • Pancakes with sugar-free syrup and spray butter.
  • Jimmy Dean D-Lights: (Sausage, egg, and cheese on a muffin or croissant.)
  • Whole wheat Eggo with low-cal vanilla yogurt.
  • Spinach and feta omelet: frozen spinach and a little feta in an eggbeater omelet
  • French toast: Use Arnolds Thin Sandwich bread with egg whites.
  • Oatmeal

Hope that gives you some ideas!! I went to the store right after and although I couldn’t find the Canadian bacon, I did find low-cal ham (1pt for 6 slices!), English muffins that are 2pts each, and I’ll had the low-cal American cheese I have at home. Yay for breakfast. YOU MUST EAT BREAKFAST!!!

  1. Hey, I WENT to the SAME MEETING! (jk: different meeting, same topic)
But my new favorite breakfast is Kashi GoLean waffles – 1.5 EACH. With fruit, margarine, yogurt… etc. YUM.

Hmmm….I never thought of using those Arnold Sandwich Thins for French Toast. I love those things. And I’ve never made an omelet with egg beaters. I’ll try it!

I found your site thru the fabfatties, which I found on twitter! I am SOO happy that I found you and stumbled upon the topic of breakfast! A light bulb just came on and THAT is probably what I’ve been doing wrong! I’ve been trying to count points (signed up for WW free online trial, bought the books & tools, then got off when the trial was over). So, I’m doing it myself & find I was running out of points before dinner. I was eating just a slim-fast shake or bar for breakfast to keep my points around 3. But I keep gaining weight! Every week the scale is up 1lb! It’s very discouraging! I also follow @wiimoms (& each of them individually), have a wii & been trying to get some exercise which makes it even more depressing when I get on the scale and have gained! YOU JUST MADE MY DAY and starting tomorrow…I’m going to EAT a healthy breakfast! THANK YOU!!
