You have to want it

April 29th, 2009

If you’ve been curious how I found you on Twitter, I’ll tell you how. Every so often, I search for “Weight Watchers” or “WW”. I could search “lose weight” or “weight loss” or any of the number of combinations. However, WW fosters community support and people that are using Weight Watchers are most likely to be supportive of me and would appreciate support from me.

But, I have found tweets that are so discouraging and I don’t add the people that put them out. The most common go along the lines of “I just want to eat chocolate, but I’m on Weight Watchers! Argh!”

One, Weight Watchers does not disparage the eating of chocolate. What woman would even consider a diet like that?

Two, and the most discouraging is the fight. Who are you fighting when you complain about dieting? Did your mom or dad force you into this diet? No. Did WW or any other diet company drag you to their business? No. Did your work say, “Lose weight or be fired?” No. The only person you are fighting is YOU. WW is a tool that is supposed to HELP you.

When I complain that I want to eat and eat and “can’t”, I’m complaining about myself. I’m either on a self-destructive path that I want to go down without consequences, or I am unhappy with my diet. Either way, to say, “I am dieting, but I hate it and it’s the diet’s fault” is completely wrong. That’s like saying, “I want this shed built, but it’s hard and it’s the hammer’s fault.” Buy a nailgun! Get some friends to help! Do a little everyday.

You have to want this and want to be responsible for any and all results, good AND bad. Otherwise, you are setting yourself up to fail.

I have been looking looking around for this kind of information. Will you post some more in future? I’ll be grateful if you will.
