I do great on routine. If a task gets on my weekly or daily routine, consider it done! It’s the same for losing weight. Unfortunately, if I find myself out of a routine, I find myself flailing. And failing.
Give this past weekend, for example. We spent the morning walking for March for Dimes with no plan on lunch. So when Subway was giving free sandwiches away, I went for it, figuring it would be low points for the turkey. Luckily, it was, but what if Baskin Robbins had shown up?? Then we went to a friend’s house and he took my husband to a nearby deli. Because I got hungry, I ate a little of my husband’s sandwich.
Sunday, we were last-minute invited to a baby shower. The husband spent more than an hour cooking hamburgers and hotdogs. The hosts were constantly pushing soda and chips with the words, “Eat! Eat!”. I resisted, but not without comments of “Aren’t you hungry?”, “Oh, you don’t like buns?”, and “We have plenty of food!!”
And in a couple of weeks, we are going on vacation. Talk about throwing the routine out the window!
So I have to make a routine that involves eating and activity for this trip. Every morning, after I wake up, I’ll take my daughter for a walk before breakfast. And we’ll have our girl talk without Daddy around.
Before we leave the hotel, I’ll check that I have good snacks: popcorn, vegetables, and other low-point items. And of course, I will continue to tweet what I eat! I have a feeling we won’t know where we’ll be eating until we are walking inside the restaurant. So I need a constant on that. Fruit for breakfast, sandwich for lunch, salad for dinner? What do you think? Any suggestions?

Thanks for just following me on Twitter. Good luck with your vacation – I just returned from two weeks on a cruise and that was difficult! While I did gain some weight (2 lbs) it wasn’t as much as past cruises (4-5lbs) and this one was much longer, so I was quite happy. While I was on the trip, I didn’t track points (too difficult) but I really tried to pay attention to what I was consuming. Breakfast was usually yogurt and fruit, lunch was a salad (with light dressing on the side) and dinner… well I tried to make as many sensible choices like “grilled” over “fried”. And, my biggest thing is I have a huge sweet tooth, so I decided to split my dessert each night and once I had enough, I stopped eating. If you can bring your own snacks, that is great – it will save you points and money!
ALSO, I made sure to get more exercise in then normal… so I did a lot of walking.
Good luck and keep us posted!
